TEGUCIGALPA (Reuters) - Ousted President Manuel Zelaya vowed on Tuesday to return to Honduras flanked by foreign leaders to serve the rest of his term, defying a Heritage Watches warning from a hostile interim leadership that he will be immediately arrested.
Zelaya gathered further international support as he addressed the United Nations and Organization of American States. He said the Argentine and Ecuadorean presidents and the U.N. General Assembly and OAS chiefs would accompany him on a La Tradition Breguet Watches trip back to Honduras on Thursday.
Upping the ante in what is already Central America’s biggest political crisis in decades, the interim government set up after Sunday’s military coup said Zelaya would be captured if he Marine Watches returned.
The coup against Zelaya — a timber magnate toppled in a dispute over his push to allow presidential re-election beyond a single four-year term — has been greeted by a tide of condemnation from President Barack Obama to Zelaya’s leftist allies in Latin America. But he remains a divisive figure in Honduras, an impoverished Reine de Naples Watches coffee, textile and banana-exporter of some 7 million people.
Several thousand demonstrators rallied in favor of his ouster in the capital Tegucigalpa on Tuesday, after two days of rowdy anti-Zelaya protests near the presidential palace.
But in a development that Type XX Watches could offer an opening for talks on ending the stand-off, the interim government said it would send a delegation of politicians, business leaders and lawyers to Washington on Wednesday for talks on the crisis.
Roberto Micheletti, sworn in as caretaker president by Congress soon after Sunday’s coup, announced the mission after Zelaya traveled to New York and Washington to address the United Nations and Organization of American States on Tuesday.
U.S. officials said Zelaya would Type XXI Watches likely meet State Department officials while in Washington.
Zelaya insisted he will return to complete his mandate, which ends in early 2010, and said he did not intend to run for president again.
“I am going back to Honduras on Thursday, I’m going to return as president,” Zelaya said after the U.N. General Assembly urged member states to recognize only his Baume and Mercier Riviera government.
CHAVEZ ALLY
In office since 2006, Zelaya had upset conservative elites with his growing alliance with Venezuelan President capeland Hugo Chavez, a left-wing firebrand who is championing an old-style revolutionary brand of socialism across Latin America.
Central America’s first military coup since the Cold War came after Zelaya angered Congress, courts capeland s and the army with a push for constitutional changes to allow presidential
re-election.
Enrique Ortez, the interim government’s foreign minister, told CNN’s Spanish-language channel that Zelaya catwalk had charges pending against him for violating the constitution, drug trafficking and organized crime.

TEGUCIGALPA (Reuters) - Honduras came under pressure on Monday to reinstate ousted President Manuel Zelaya as many Latin American leaders agreed to Artelier withdraw envoys, Washington called his overthrow illegal and street protests turned violent.
Police in the Honduran capital fired tear gas at stone-throwing supporters of Zelaya, who was toppled in an army coup on Sunday.
Some 1,500 protesters, some of Big Crown them masked and carrying sticks, taunted solders and burned tires just outside the gates of the presidential palace in a face-off with security forces.
Zelaya, a leftist, was detained and sent into exile in a dispute over his push to extend presidential terms. The coup is Central America’s biggest political crisis since the Divers U.S. invasion of Panama in 1989.
Left-wing Latin American presidents led by Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez announced at a meeting in Managua, capital of neighboring Nicaragua, that they would withdraw their ambassadors from Honduras in protest at the coup.
Leaders from Central America, also Frank Sinatra meeting in Managua, followed suit soon after, a senior diplomatic source said [nN29361794], and announced a 2-day halt in trade with Honduras.
Honduras, an impoverished country of 7 million people, is a major coffee producer — and is expected to export some 3.22 million 60-kg bags in the 2008-2009 harvest season. But there were no TT3 immediate signs that output or exports were affected as ports and roads remained open.
In Washington, President Barack Obama said it would be a “terrible precedent” to move back into an era of military coups, and added the ouster was “not legal.” The coup has Williams F1 presented Obama with a test as he seeks to mend the battered U.S. image in Latin America.
“We are very clear about the fact that President Zelaya is the democratically elected president, Obama said, adding that Washington would work with the Organization of American States and other international institutions “to see if we can resolve this in a Oris Newly Added peaceful way.”[nN29520049]
STREET CLASHES IN HONDURAS
In Monday’s protests in the capital, security forces threw tear gas canisters from a helicopter on pro-Zelaya protesters, some of whom broke restaurant windows, including those of Ferrari 8 Days U.S.-owned fast food franchises. About two dozens protesters were arrested.
“The police surrounded us. They fired gas and they started hitting everyone,” said pro-Zelaya demonstrator Joel Flores, 19, who was red-eyed and said a police officer beat him on the back with a baton. A soldier retreated to a restaurant where diners gave him water as he bandaged a bleeding leg Ferrari Granturismo wounded by a rock.
Zelaya, a Chavez ally who took office in 2006, angered the Honduran Congress, Supreme Court and army by pushing for a public vote to gauge support for changing the constitution to let presidents seek re-election beyond a single four-year term. He was Ferrari Perpetual Calendar due to address the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday.
The military seized Zelaya and flew him to Costa Rica in Central America’s first successful army coup since the Cold War era of dictatorships and war in the region. The Supreme Court, which last week overruled Zelaya’s bid to fire the armed forces chief, said it had told the Ferrari Scuderia army to remove the president.
Washington’s condemnation of the coup put it in the same camp as leftist Latin American leaders such as Chavez who are often at ideological loggerheads with the United States. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the United States viewed Zelaya’s ouster as a coup but was not legally declaring this for now. Such a formal step would require Washington to cut off most aid to Luminor Tegucigalpa. [nN29384895]
A senior U.S. official who spoke on condition he not be named said that by holding off on a legal determination on a coup, Washington was trying to provide space for a negotiated settlement.
Roberto Micheletti, named by Congress within hours of the Radiomir coup as interim president until elections due in November, imposed a curfew for Sunday and Monday night.
Pro-Zelaya protesters railed against the conservative wealthy class that traditionally ran Honduras, and much of Central America, after independence from Spain in the Don Giovanni 19th century.
ONLY 30 PERCENT SUPPORT ZELAYA
“We are going to be here until President Zelaya returns. Micheletti is the president of the rich and powerful who own this country,” a 22-year-old electrician who gave his Freelancer name only as Kevin, said at a protest outside the presidential palace.
Zelaya, 56, is a logger and rancher who was originally close to Honduras’ ruling elite but then threw his lot in with Chavez’s regional bloc and has steered the country leftward. His alliance with the Venezuelan leader, and his efforts to lift presidential term limits, upset the Othello army and the rich.
Recent polls show support for Zelaya in Honduras has dropped to around 30 percent in recent months.
The country, a coffee, textile and banana exporter, had been politically stable since the end of Parsifal military rule in the early 1980s.
Disruption to the coffee industry is less likely because the current harvest season is drawing to a close and Honduras only has a few hundred thousand bags left to export. But the longer term outlook for the RW Spirit industry was more uncertain.
Honduras was a U.S. ally in the 1980s when Washington helped Central American governments fight Marxist rebels and the United States still keeps some 600 troops at a Honduran base used for humanitarian and disaster relief operations.

Ahmadinejad Demands Apology From Obama

TEHRAN, June 25 — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lashed out at President Obama on Thursday, warning him against “interfering” in Iranian affairs and demanding an apology for criticism of a Jaeger LeCoultre government crackdown on demonstrators protesting alleged electoral fraud.
Despite an increasingly harsh response to the protests, opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi pledged to continue challenging official results that showed a landslide victory for Ahmadinejad in Iran’s June Longines 12 presidential election. He vowed to resist growing pressure to end his campaign and said he remains determined to prove that those who rigged the election are also responsible for the violence unleashed on opposition protesters.
The two rivals issued their dueling statements — neither mentioning the other by name — a day after security forces broke up the latest demonstrations, then temporarily detained university professors who Oris had met with Mousavi.
Two grand ayatollahs, leading figures in Iran’s predominant Shiite Muslim faith, also waded into the fray, as did European foreign ministers from the Group of Eight world powers at a meeting in Italy.
In a speech at a petrochemical plant in southern Iran, Ahmadinejad said Obama was behaving like his predecessor, President Patek Philippe George W. Bush, and suggested that talks with the United States on Iran’s nuclear program would be pointless if Obama kept up his criticism. Obama, who has expressed interest in talking to the Iranian leadership about the nuclear issue, told a news conference Tuesday that he was “appalled and outraged” by recent violence against demonstrators, and he accused the Iranian government of trying to “distract people” by blaming the unrest on the United States and other Western nations.
“Do you want to speak with this tone?” Ahmadinejad responded Thursday, addressing Obama. “If that is your stance, then Panerai what is left to talk about?”
He added: “I hope you avoid interfering in Iran’s affairs and express your regret in a way that the Iranian nation is informed of it.” He asked why Obama “has fallen into this trap and repeated the comments that Bush used to make” and told the U.S. president that such an attitude “will only make you another Bush in the Rado eyes of the people.”
Ahmadinejad also praised Iran’s election as demonstrating “the great capabilities and grandeur of the Iranian nation” and declared that his country is practicing true “freedom,” as opposed to “this unpopular democracy which is governing America and Europe.” Americans and Europeans “have no right to choose and are restricted to . . . two or three parties” in voting for their Raymond Weil leaders, he said.
In Washington, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs dismissed Ahmadinejad’s criticism. Obama has said “that there are people in Iran who want to make this not about a debate among Iranians in Iran, but about the West and the United States,” Gibbs said. “And I would add President Ahmadinejad to that list of people trying to make this about the Tissot watches United States.”
Iran’s government has declared that Ahmadinejad decisively won the election with nearly 63 percent of the vote, while Mousavi received less than 34 percent and two other candidates trailed far behind. Mousavi immediately challenged the results, charging that massive fraud “reversed” the outcome and cheated him of victory.
The 67-year-old former prime minister posted a statement on his Web site Thursday saying he was being pressed to Vacheron Constantin withdraw his challenge and had been severely restricted in his ability to communicate with supporters.
“However, I am not prepared to give up under the pressure of threats or personal interest,” he said.

Fed appeals court revives Va. abortion law

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A sharply divided federal appeals court upheld Virginia’s ban on a type of late-term abortion Wednesday, ruling that the statute does not unduly burden a woman’s Ceramica right to terminate a pregnancy by more conventional means.
The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said in a 6-5 decision that the 2003 law also makes clear the type of procedure that is banned and adequately protects women’s health. Abortion opponents call the prohibited procedure “partial-birth abortion,” and doctors call it Coupole “intact dilation and extraction.”
The decision reversed a 2-1 panel ruling in May 2008 that struck down the law, which is similar to a federal statute prohibiting a procedure in which the fetus is partially delivered and then destroyed.
“A partially born child is among the weakest, most helpless beings in our midst and on that account exerts a special claim on our protection,” Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III wrote in Florence concurring with the majority opinion, which was written by Judge Paul V. Niemeyer.
According to the nonprofit Guttmacher Institute, which focuses on reproductive health issues, 31 states have enacted “partial-birth abortion” bans. The decision in the Virginia case leaves 15 state laws blocked by a court, while 16 laws are now in effect.
Abortion rights supporters claimed Virginia’s statute was unconstitutional because the Integral banned procedure was so broadly defined that it would prohibit the safest and most common form of second-trimester abortion. But the appeals court noted that the law specifically exempts the standard “dilation and extraction” procedure.
Virginia Attorney General Bill Mims said he was pleased with the court’s ruling.
“This is a law that passed both houses of the General Assembly with bipartisan support,” he said. “While we anticipate that the U.S. Supreme Court may be asked to review the Original decision, I am confident that the Supreme Court ultimately will uphold the law.”
Stephanie Toti, the Center for Reproductive Rights attorney who represented the abortion providers who challenged the law, said no decision has been made on whether to appeal to the Supreme Court. The nation’s highest court upheld the federal ban but has made it clear that abortion bans must provide an exception to protect the woman’s health.
“This decision just really ignores that precedent,” she said of Wednesday’s ruling. “It’s really insulting to women’s dignity that the court would put so little priority on Ovation protecting women’s health and well-being.”
In a dissenting opinion, Judge M. Blane Michael wrote the Virginia law is unconstitutional because it imposes criminal liability on “any doctor who sets out to perform a standard D&E that by accident becomes an intact D&E.”
Violations of the state law would be a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
All six judges who voted to Rado Hard to Find Rado affirm the law — Wilkinson, Niemeyer, Karen Williams, Dennis Shedd, Allyson Duncan and Steve Agee — were appointed by Republican presidents. Democrats appointed the five dissenters: Michael, Diana Gribbon Motz, William Traxler, Robert King and Roger Gregory.
Michael also led the three-judge panel that struck down the Virginia law twice, initially in 2005. The U.S. Supreme Court ordered the second look after upholding the federal ban in Sintra April 2007, and the appeals court panel again struck down the Virginia law.
The case is Richmond Medical Center v. Herring.

Brominated Flame Retardants

Keeping things from catching fire and burning up is a good idea, especially when those things are parts of our buildings or the furnishings we put in our buildings. Flame retardants—chemicals added to products either during Panerai manufacture or afterwards—are one of the ways we make products more resistant to igniting or burning (see EBN June 2004).
The problem is that some flame retardants, particularly brominated compounds, aren’t good for us or for the environment. Back in the early 1970s in Michigan, a polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) flame retardant was accidentally mixed with livestock feed and hundreds of thousands of cows and other livestock had to be destroyed, leading to the Rado banning of PBBs. So manufacturers switched to a chemically very similar class of compounds, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), that weren’t known to be toxic.
It surprises a lot of people to learn that, except for pharmaceuticals and pesticides, chemicals in the U.S. do not have to be tested for health and environmental safety before they are introduced—and manufacturers aren’t even required to divulge what’s in products when the quantities are small. Since the 1970s, huge quantities of PBDEs and other brominated flame retardants have been used in everything from computer cases to foam insulation and upholstery stuffing. Here’s a quick summary of Raymond Weil brominated flame retardants in use today:
• decaBDE (83% bromine)—Often referred to as “deca” and commonly used for hard plastics and fabric backing, especially since octaBDE was phased out of production. There is considerable evidence of bioaccumulation as well as breakdown into more dangerous forms of BDE; potential impacts on Tissot watches behavior, learning, and memory, and some evidence of liver cancer.
• TBBPA (Tetrabromobisphenyl A; 50% bromine)—Widely used for epoxy resins and hard plastics. Little is known about health and environmental effects, but the compound is widely found in the environment.
• HBCD (Hexabromocyclododecane; 75% bromine)—Used in nearly all polystyrene foam insulation as well as in upholstery fabric backing and in some hard plastics. It is widely found in household dust and has been Vacheron Constantin shown to bioaccumulate; there is evidence of effects on behavior, learning, and memory after neonatal exposure.
• DBDPE (Decabromodiphenyl ethane, 82% bromine)—Made in China and used in hard plastics, cables, textiles, and certain foams. Little is known about environmental and health problems.
Alternatives to brominated flame retardants include certain compounds containing chlorine (chemically, a halogen that is similar to bromine), phosphate, phosphorus, ammonium, aluminum trihydroxide, borax Zenith (sodium borate), antimony, and melamine cyanurate. Of these, chlorinated flame retardants, such as TDCP (chlorinated Tris), are persistent in the environment but may be less likely to bioaccumulate than brominated compounds. Some chemists believe that chlorinated flame retardants may be just as toxic as their brominated cousins. The other (non-halogenated) flame retardants are generally considered much safer.

Spain Catholic Bishops Increase Efforts to Stop Legislation to Expand Abortions

Madrid, Spain (LifeNews.com) — The Catholic bishops in Spain are increasing their efforts to oppose legislation proposed by the Ingenieur ruling Socialist government that would expand abortions in the European nation. The bill describes abortion as a constitutional right that must be protected by the nation’s government, something the Spain Bishops Conference called “a poisoned source of immorality and injustice.” The conference’s executive committee Portofino issued a strong statement against the measure saying the “most sobering aspect of this law is its pretention to label abortion as a right that must be protected by the State” and that the “will of the mother becomes the absolute arbiter over the life or death of the child she carries in her womb.” “The inclusion of abortion within the means that are supposedly necessary to care for a person’s health is in and of itself gravely false. Abortion never heals, it always kills. An authentic health care policy should always take into Portuguese account the health of pregnant women, but also the life and health of the child to be born,” the bishops said. Abortions are technically illegal in Spain unless they are needed to protect a woman’s mental or physical health and that exception has been used to allow virtually unlimited abortions. Some abortion businesses were exposed in recent years for completing patient intake forms with bogus mental health reasons for Spitfire Pilot abortions before women arrived for their schedule abortion procedures. The bill, which Parliament is expected to begin reviewing in July, would legalize abortions without any limits up to 14 weeks into pregnancy and have similar weak limits on abortions after that point. The ruling Socialists recently defeated a parliamentary move Rado Classic Watch by conservative parties to allow more debate on the bill and delay a vote and observers say that makes it appear enough votes exist to approve the pro-abortion bill.

Fit Watch: watching the watchers

The Metropolitan police’s forward intelligence teams (Fits) have been around for more than a wholesale watch decade, and senior officers say they are a vital tool in keeping tabs on protesters.
Amateur spies who oppose police surveillance are a more recent feature at demonstrations. Fit Watch can be traced back to early 2007 and a meeting for arms trade campaigners at a Rolex student union in London.
Val Swain, who first became involved in protests during the Iraq war, held up a makeshift banner bearing the message “Respect Our Privacy” to block the police camera. She said she was arrested for obstruction and assault but found not guilty at her trial.
During the following months, campaigners began taking cameras to demonstrations and Omega recording the actions of police. This can result in some amusing stand-offs between police officers and Fit Watch campaigners pointing cameras in each other’s faces.
Activists are regularly arrested, although they say they almost always see charges against them dropped. However, some Fit Watch campaigners have been successfully prosecuted over their actions; they are appealing against their convictions. The significance of Breitling amateur footage became apparent at the G20 demonstrations in April, when video of alleged police brutality, including the attack on the newspaper vendor Ian Tomlinson shortly before he died, forced police to admit that serious mistakes had been made.
